Power Walkers
Answer
There IS a 10k power walk in the Mercedes-Benz Oakville 10k!
All power walkers must wear a walker’s race bib on both their front and back. No exceptions. The back bib must always be visible during the race.
There is a separate start time for power walkers of 8:35am.
Time limit for power walkers: a 2-hour time limit for the power walk. Starting at 8:35 am, that means you must be off the road by 10:35 am (this means at the finish line; if still ON the course by 10:35 you will be asked by police and race officials to move onto sidewalks or boulevards to finish the race so that roads can reopen to traffic as per the event permit).
PLEASE NOTE: The power walking division is for participants who power walk the entire distance. Power walkers must keep one foot in contact with the ground at all times. Excessive knee bend of the front landing leg is indicative of a running gait. Race organizers reserve the right to move any competitor deemed to be running from the power walk category to the run category. All power walkers must wear a walker’s race bib on both their front and back. No exceptions. The back bib must always be visible during the race. All in all, any walker doing ANY running should register for the 10k run.
We are honoured to have two Power Walking groups affiliated with the race, Tread Powerfully (www.treadpowerfully.com) and WOW Power Walking (www.wowpowerwalking.com). Please be sure to visit their websites for further information regarding the sport of power walking.
There will be AWARDS provided to power walkers as well, as follows:
